Chinese New year

We really enjoy teaching the children about the Chinese New year. We watch videos to see how and why it is celebrated. The children learn about the animal race and how the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac happened and what order they are in.

This year is the year of the rabbit so we have made Rabbit finger puppets. The children also made chinese drums and lanturms and made a big dragon to display on our wall. They have danced to chinese music and enjoyed having some sensory play with noodles, re-enacted the animal race with the 12 animals, coloured in some dragon pictures and most of all played in our chinses role play restaurant. The Topic was meant to last two weeks but as the chinese year is celebrated for 15 days and we are enjoying it so much we are going to extend it for an extra week.
